“Indian River Fire Sky” by RA McLendon. This is an early Fire Sky scene by Highwaymen artist RA McLendon. Florida was very different in 1955 when Mr. McLendon started his painting career. Then Florida had 3.7 million residents. I-95 and Florida’s Turnpike were not completed with U.S. #1 the main highway into Florida. Today Florida’s population is almost 22 million.
He never envisioned his paintings to be shown/exhibited in major museums. Museums that include the Backus Museum, Vero Beach Museum of Art, Ft. Lauderdale Museum of Art, the Orlando Museum of Art and the Tampa Museum of Art show that starts this November, 2020.
